COOL suspended immediately

The United States Department of Agriculture has suspended Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) regulations for meat, effective immediately.

The House of Representatives and Senate have already voted to scrap COOL, but U.S. President Barack Obama has not yet signed it into law.

The suspension means that meat packers bidding for cattle and hogs have no reason to discount Canadian livestock.

That should immediately lift prices for cattle and hogs as Canadian packers will face competition from Americans.
