Canada’s milk marketing boards have implemented a schedule
of lower prices for milk that is used to produce diafiltered milk, aiming to
displace imports.
The United States is the main source of diafiltered milk,
which originated from a processing technique developed in Europe.
Because it is new, it is not covered by Canada’s schedule of
high tariffs designed to protect supply management’s high milk prices for
farmers.
Hogan is heading a trade mission of 60 companies that is now
in Canada seeking markets.
