Premier
Kathleen Wynne and Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal are ramping up
their efforts to persuade U.S. farm leaders that they need to
preserve free trade with Ontario.
They
recently met with Ontario agriculture industry leaders, announced
formation oof an advisory committee on trade and Leal planned a trip
to key border states.
The U.S. is
Ontario’s number one trading partner, with two-way agri-food trade
totaling about $28.8 billion in 2016, they said in a news release
after their meeting with industry leaders.food to consumers.
Leal said
it’s important to retain supply management. That’s what the U.S.
is determined to change by gaining increased access to the Canadian
markets for dairy and poultry.
