Statistics Canada reports that Ontario had the best maple syrup run since 2011, an increase of 9.4 per cent from 2017 and a total of 2.1 million litres.
But Quebec production was down by 22.4 per cent and New Brunswick by 34.5 per cent so the national total was down by 21.7 per cent to a three-year low of 44.5 million litres.
Honey production was down by 2.9 per cent to 42 million kilograms, even though there were a record number of beekeepers (10,629) and bee colonies (796,764).
