Adam Bros. Farming Inc. is recalling more than its Romaine lettuce after the United States Food and Drug Administration found E. coli in Romaine at its farm in California.
Contaminated irrigation water appears to be the source of the deadly food-poisoning bacteria, E. coli 0157:H7.
The company said in a news release it is voluntarily recalling red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce and cauliflower, harvested from Nov. 27 through Nov. 30.
The company said the products did not test positive for E. coli, but were recalled "out of an abundance of caution," because the produce was grown near the location where the FDA found E. coli matching the strain in the outbreak.
So far 22 Canadians and more than 55 Americans have suffered food poisoning linked to Romaine lettuce.
The U.S. FDA has said there may be more contaminated Romaine than just what came from the Adam Bros. farming operations.
It is advising the market to dump Romaine from four counties in Central Coastal California. Earlier, before it narrowed the source, it advised the market to dump all Romaine from anywhere in the U.S.
