Chicken production set to increase

Supply management leaders are calling for a five per cent increase in production in quota period A-173 which ends from the end of November to mid-January.

For Chicken Farmers of Ontario, the increase is 5.46 per cent.

“Planning for the A-173 period reflects an expectation of further lifting of (COVID-19) restrictions that will increase social and family gatherings and out-of-home dining activity and the impact of important market drivers,” the Ontario marketing board said on its website.

The increases are calculated compared with base production quotas.
