Quebec hog farmers want end to Olymel strike

Quebec’s hog marketing board is asking the province to take action to end the strike at the Olymel hog-slaughtering plant at Vallee Jonction.

Hogs are backing up on farms and some are being trucked as far as Alberta, where Olymel owns another hog-slaughtering plant, or to the United States.

Government-ordered arbitration failed last week. The company accepted the report, but the union rejected it.

The strike has been on since late April.
