It has already taken up almost two weeks of hearings before the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Appeal Tribunal, delving into the details and contrary opinions about capital costs and labour.
The outcome of the appeal could not only impact the prices hatching egg producers can charge hatcheries for eggs, but also the Chicken Farmers of Ontario marketing board’s cost-of-production formula.
OBHECC copied some of the chicken board’s approaches to capital and labour costs, although the Ontario Farm Products Commission has since ordered changes to the chicken board’s pricing.
The tribunal has set the new dates from March 14 to 18 and they will be held via ZOOM.
The processors have an interest in the hatching egg prices because they are a component in the chicken board’s pricing which processors must pay.
