H5N2 hits 10th barn

Avian influenza has hit a tenth poultry barn in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, this one 53,000 laying hens.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is having trouble stopping the spread of the H5N2 high-pathogenic strain since it first showed up Dec.1.

The most recent case is near Langley, close to the other outbreaks in turkey, broiler breeder and chicken flocks near Abbotsford and Chilliwack.

The CFIA has placed restrictions on movements throughout the entire Southern part of British Columbia.
