A 7,000-bird flock of chickens is the ninth to suffer an
outbreak of H5N2 avian influenza in the Abbotsford-Chilliwack area of British
Columbia.
That brings the total to about 188,000 turkeys and chickens
that have either died or will be slaughtered in efforts to stop the spread of
the high-pathogenic strain of avian influenza.
Seven countries, including the United States, have banned
Canadian poultry because of this outbreak.
There’s an assumption it originated with wild ducks or geese
passing through the Fraser Valley.
