Frito Lay expanding at Cambridge

PepsiCo Foods Canada will be spending more than $23 million to expand and modernize its Frito Lay Canada plant in Cambridge.

The $23 million is the value of the building permit issued by Cambridge for the 144,000-square-foot addition, most of it for warehousing, and does not count money for machinery and equipment.

The company did not release a cost estimate.

About 650 people work at the plant making Lays, Doritos, Tostitos, Ruffles, SunChips, Cheetos, Miss Vickie’s, Smartfood and Tovistos snacks.

The plant began as a potato chip company about 60 years ago.
