Trudeau, Trump talk about China

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and United States President Donald Trump had a telephone talk Thursday about China.

Trudeau asked Trump to use his influence to procure freedom for two Canadians being held in Chinese jails.

And he also asked again that Trump remove tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum and gain ratification for the trade agreement among Canada, Mexico and the U.S.

Top-level Chinese officials are continuing trade negotiations in Washington today.

There was no mention about the possibility that Trudeau asked Trump to pressure China to ease its trade-hindering moves against exports of Canadian canola, soybeans and pork.

Meanwhile, legal authorities granted Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou permission to move from a $5-million Vancouver mansion to a $13-million home in a gated community where the public can’t gawk.

Wanzhou is being held on bail while Canadian courts decide whether the U.S. is justified in applying for her extradition to face charges of illegally trading with Iran.
