Ontario offers $9.5 million for soils

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is putting up $9.5 million over three years to improve soil health, productivity and profitability.

Some will be used to update soils maps that were in many cases have not changed since the 1940s.

“This funding will allow farmers, researchers and others to access critical data to help understand and adapt to meet the needs of soil management and health protocols province-wide,” said Ontario Agriculture Minister Lisa Thompson.

The funds will also be used to build the Ontario Agricultural Soil Information System (OASIS). This data and information system will house, manage, and analyze soil data critical to support farming operations.
