The Canadian Meat Council (CMC) and Canadian Pork Council (CPC) said they are pleased about the successful conclusion of negotiations for the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
It improves access to one of the fastest-growing markets in the Indo-Pacific region where the population is 279 million and the national gross domestic product Is nearly $1.9 trillion.
The agreement includes a robust sanitary and phytosanitary protocols, providing transparency and ensuring these requirements do not become non-tariff barriers, the CMC and CPC said.
It deals with halal certifications and food safety audits.
The Canadian Meat Council has been lobbying for years for a trade deal and even moreso when China banned Canadian pork.
