Canadians are eating more chicken than ever, according to
statistics released recently by the Chicken Farmers of Canada which runs a
national supply management program.
Canadian production is up by 4.4 per cent, imports are down by
11 per cent and exports and down by five per cent.
Storage stocks have increased, but by only nine million
kilograms against an increase in total supplies of 20 million kilograms.
That means Canadians ate their way through more than 1.1
billion pounds of chicken over the first 10 months of this year.
Retail prices are marginally higher this year than last, but
so, too, are beef prices. Pork costs less than last year.
