New satellites to improve rural internet

Xplornet has launched a satellite that will deliver high-speed internet service to rural parts of Canada.

President Allison Lenehan says the new network will measurably improve service to customers with data at speeds not yet seen in many parts of the country.

The 6.7-tonne satellite is the first of two to be launched to complete the upgrade of the network.

It's probably no coincidence that the Canadian Radio and Television Commission is scheduled to announce today whether Canadians have a right to internet service.
