The European Union imposed a ban on most U.S. beef in 1998
because farmers use growth promotants.
That was over-ruled by the World Trade Organization and then
the Europeans struck a deal to allow some beef imports from the U.S.
But now the outgoing administration of President Barrack
Obama says that’s not working, so it says it is prepared to impose tariffs on
European products to pressure the Europeans
to drop their beef import barriers.
