The Canada
Summer Jobs 2017 program opens to employer applications Dec. 5.
The
reminder comes from John Nater, MP for Perth—Wellington.
“Through
Canada Summer Jobs, young Canadians have the opportunity to gain the skills and
experience they need to get jobs now and in the future,.” he says.
“I
encourage employers to apply for funding to create jobs that will help
students, employers and their local economies.”
The application process remans to January 20 and
notifications to employers will go out in early to mid-April.
Nater said he’s disappointed that the Minister of
Finance and the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour have
not taken his advice to move up the notification date so employers can hire
students earlier.
“University and college students must have an idea of where they will be
working in the summer by mid-February,” he said.
“The
mid-April notification date is much too late for most students to wait to find
out whether or not they have a jo
b.”
Funding will be available to not-for-profit
organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses (under 50
employees) to hire qualified young people aged 15 to 30, who are full-time
students and intend to return to school in the fall.
