The chief executive of Action
Packaging and Design of California could get up to 10 years in prison after
entering a guilty plea to charges of counterfeiting labels for veterinary
drugs.
Paul Rodriguez was the chief
executive of the company between July, 2015, and December, 2016, when the
counterfeiting took place.
According to the United States Food
and Drug Administration, "he intentionally trafficked in counterfeit
labels and packaging by manufacturing” products trademarked as Frontline, Frontline
Plus and Merial. He then shipped them to Houston, Texas.
Rodriguez also intentionally
trafficked in counterfeit trademarked Rimadyl labels – a Zoetis product.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 2.
He could not only get prison time, but also a fine of up to $2 million.
