Mercy For
Animals has caught another case of on-farm abuse, this time horrific acts at a
British Columbia chicken farm.
It’s also at
Chilliwack where Mercy For Animals caught dairy cattle abuse on video, leading
to convictions for both the employees and employer.
So what's with the farm employers and employees in that mountain valley?
In this case,
the farm’s ultimate owner, Sofina Foods, has condemned the employees caught
pulling off chicken’s legs and conducting sexual acts on the birds which were
being caught to take to Sofina’s Lillydale processing plant.
The British
Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has launched a formal
investigation.
The agency says
it will be recommending multiple charges of animal cruelty under both the Criminal
Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
If convicted, they
could be fined up to $75,000, a maximum five-year prison sentence and could be
banned for life from owning or being around animals.
The people
shown in the video need to be held accountable for their actions, an agency
spokesman said.
"The video
includes some of the most brutal and sadistic acts of violence against animals
I have ever seen," she said. "It is extremely difficult to
watch."
