The National Turkey Federation in the United States is calling for a tariff-rate quota to the Canadian market.
The dairy, chicken and egg industries have tariff-rate quotas for the Canadian market, meaning they can sell a certain volume at relatively low Canadian tariff rates, but anything more faces heavy tariffs.
In a formal statement to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, which is collecting public comment on the review of the trade deal among Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, the turkey federation’s vice president Lindy Froebel said that the trade pact has “provided an important foundation for economic cooperation, and without its stability, our industry would face more uncertainty in planning, increased transportation and compliance costs, and reduced competitiveness in global export markets.”
