Fire burns 4,000 hogs

Two barns housing 4,000 hogs burned to the ground near Townsend, not far from Jarvis, early Monday morning.

The alarm was turned in a 4:30 a.m., but firefighters were not able to contain the blaze.

The hogs of all ages were a breeding operation.

There were also about 300 sheep and some cattle in the barns which are joined by a passageway roof.

The loss estimate is $2 million.
