Disease threat leads to charges

A Guelph man will be back in court in Brampton Nov. 16 to deal with charges of illegally importing livestock diseases.
He first appeared in court there on Oct. 10.

Mr. Gang Li faces four charges laid by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency which said he “unlawfully imported animal pathogens into Canada, including the Peste des Petits Ruminants Virus, Newcastle Disease Virus, Duck Adenovirus I, and Parainfluenza Virus 5, without a permit contrary to section 51(a) of the Health of Animalegulations.
“One charge alleges that Mr. Li failed to present the animal pathogens for inspection, either before or at the time of importation, contrary to section 16(1) of the Health of Animals Act,” the CFIA said on its website.
