CFIA charges olive oil importer

Distribution Épicerie C.T.S. Inc. of Montréal is facing three charges of misleading labeling of olive oil it imported.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency alleges that the product carrying labels identifying contents as “extra virgin olive oil” is misleading because it fails to meet that standard.

For years there have been reports that not all olive oil labeled as “extra virgin” meets that standard, but this is one of the first time charges have been laid.

The company is due to appear in court today.
