Paul Mistele winner announced

Feed Ontario has given this year’s Paul Mistele award to 20 Ontario farm organizations that made donations to the organization that supports 130 local foodbanks.

The Paul Mistele Memorial Award recognizes agricultural partners who have shown a significant and enduring commitment to ending hunger in Ontario.

The late Paul Mistele began donating hogs to food banks at a time when the industry was hit by devastatingly-low prices and widespread bankruptcies.

He challenged others to join to donate hogs and eventually his initiative was picked up and expanded through the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, of which he was an executive member.banks with Ontario grown food products.

"In a year when so many of our partners have faced incredible challenges of their own, it has been so heartwarming to see the incredible generosity of Ontario’s food and agriculture industries!" said Carolyn Stewart, executive director of Feed Ontario.

"At a time when many families are facing hunger for the first time, this amazing support is very much appreciated, and every single one of our partners has gone above and beyond.”

But a raspberry to Chicken Farmers of Ontario for putting a post on its website that for the second year it has won the Paul Mistele award. True, but quite misleading.
