Yum Brands has dropped OSI Group of Aurora, Illinois, as its
supplier for its franchise outlets in China, Australia and the United States – Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell
and Pizza Hut.
But McDonalds is sticking with OSI which will supply 500 of
its 2,000 restaurants in China from a different processing facility.
A television report triggered global news-media coverage of
12-day-old and mouldy meat being processed into chicken nuggets and other
products for the fast-food restaurant chains in China.
The Shanghai Husi Food Co. Ltd. plant has also been
black-listed by Starbucks.
Yum Brands said it will no longer buy from any of
OSI’s Chinese facilities.
So who knew that the chicken in the U.S. fast-food restaurants might have been imported from China?
