Associated Press says a leaked
report indicates neonicitinoid pesticides may not harm honeybees.
The report says it depends on
the crop being treated and some other
factors.
It appears to be most dangerous
to honeybees when used on cotton and citrus crops, but not always when used on
corn, soybeans, berries and tobacco.
Both the United States
Environmental Protection Agency and the Canada’s Pest Management Review Agency
are scheduled to release reports today.
The U.S. report, says Associated
Press, will neither recommend a ban nor give neonicitinoids a green light for
continued widespread use.
Ontario’s grain farmers are
strongly opposed to restrictions the province has imposed, requiring farmers to
prove their fields are infested before they can use the insect-curbing seed
treatment.
