Agropur says it has stopped importing diafiltered milk.
But it has only stopped because Canadian producers are now
providing subsidized milk for the cooperative.
“While the interim national program is
temporary, its creation is good news since it makes it possible for us to stop
using imported diafiltered milk while remaining competitive and supporting our
members and all Canadian milk producers,” said Agropur president Serge Riendeau.
It also ends a conflict of values for
Agropur members. Via their marketing board, they have lobbied strenuously for
an end to imports of diafiltered milk, but via their ownership of Agropur, they
have been heavy importers of diafiltered milk.
