Metro
Inc. plans to spend about $400 million to modernize its distribution centres in
Toronto and Ottawa.
It
will build a new centre for fresh food and another for frozen food and cut
about 180 workers from a staff of about 1,500 because there will be some
automation involved in the transition.
The
changes will take about five year and will start next year.
I hope the changes include buying better quality fresh produce for its Food Basics chain.
