The 27.6-acre business home of Schneider Corp. in Kitchener
has been sold to Auburn Developments of London, Ont.
The company plans to develop the site for mixed uses,
including several types of housing.
The Kitchener councillor who represents the ward said Auburn
may keep the head office building and the warehouse, but will knock down the
rest.
The property has been on the market for nearly two years.
Maple Leaf Foods Inc. owns Schneiders and stopped processing
in Kitchener when it opened its huge new processing plant in Hamilton.
At one time the facility in Kitchener slaughtered and
processed hogs, cattle, chickens and turkeys.
It was internationally famous for high-quality fresh pork
and sausages.
The site is now on the route of a light rail urban transit
line that is scheduled to begin operation next year.
The sale price was not disclosed.
