Poland loses 8,000-pig herd to ASF

African Swine Fever has wiped out a herd of 8,000 pigs in Poland. It is the third commercial farm to be hit by the disease this year.

African Swine Fever has also increased in the wild boar population near the border with Belarus, news agencies report.

Earlier this year some Canadians raised concerns about Canadian imports of pork from Poland.

The federal government has said it has increased its vigilance to prevent the disease from coming to Canada.

Much of the focus has been on China, but African Swine Fever has hit in a number of countries such as Viet Nam, Eastern Europe and North Korea.
