Cautious approach to chicken production

Chicken Farmers of Canada is taking a cautious approach to late winter production volumes, setting the national allocation at 2.5 per cent above base quota.

For Ontario it will be 3.08 per cent above base.

The national agency has the power and responsibility to decide how much chicken Canadian farmers will produce, keeping in mind that they are charged with keeping the market supplied.

The continuing transition of the Canadian economy towards a new normalcy, with economic activity forecast to continue to operate around pre-pandemic levels, is a leading factor for the A-175 (March 6 to May 7) allocation, the agency said.

Planning for the A-175 period reflects a forecast for continuing strong demand for chicken, it said.

It is calling for national production of 210,847,873 kilogram and Ontario production of 69,823,738.
