Maple syrup production down, exports up

Warm weather shortened this year’s maple syrup season, reducing production by 21 per cent from last year.

Exports are up by 21.4 per cent.

This year’s production decline comes after two record seasons.

Quebec’s harvest was 10 million gallons, New Brunswick’s 785.700, Ontario’s 461.900 and Nova Scotia 36,000.

Up to the end of September, exports exceeded last year’s comparable period by 1.3 million gallons.

Last year exports for the entire year totalled 7.6 million gallons.
