Despite heat, drought, honey harvest increased

Despite severe heat and drought across the Western half of Canada, the national honey harvest increased by eight per cent from last year to 89.8 million pounds.

There were six per cent more colonies out and 1,111 more producers than last year, increasing the total to 13,105, reports Statistics Canada.

Exports to the end of September declined by 13.3 per cent, but higher prices more than offset that deline and export revenues increased by 4.3 per cent to $33.1 million.

More than 90 per cent was sold to Americans.
