Ten fertilizer projects share $2 million subsidy

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has funded 10 fertilizer-industry projects with $2 million.

The money is for solutions to increase the availability of fertilizer options, alternatives, and technology.

One of them is coated fertlilizer made by CRF AgriTech LP of St. Thomas.

The company says it will reduce the amount of fertilizer required and will increase yields.

Agriculture Minister Lisa Thompson said Ontario solutions reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and reduce transportation costs.

Last year the federal government slapped an additional tariff on fertilizer imports from Russia after the invasion of the Ukraine.

Farmers and politicians in Ottawa are trying to get reimbursement for farmers whose orders were in transit when the tariff came into effect.
