African Swine Fever hitting China again

African Swine Fever is hitting China’s hog industry again, infecting about half the hogs in the main pork-producing areas of Shandong and Hebel in the north.

Analysts say it will push up pork prices.

In 2018-19 the virus killed millions of China’s hogs and impacted global markets.

The Chinese hog producers are now taking more biosecurity precautions, yet the virus is circulating constantly and spikes during winter months, analysts and farm managers said.

One approach is to build high-rise buildings to house hogs and more are expected to be built soon, the report from Reuters news agency said.
