Carl Hebert dead at 75

Carl Hebert, reknowned for photography, flying an ultralight while paralyzed from the waist down and for raising hundreds of thousands for charities, has died. He was 75.


He produced picture books of conservative Mennonites, of Mennonite children, of farmers he interviewed during a cross-Canada trek on a vintage tractor and aerial photos taken from his ultralight.


Wilfrid Laurier university gave him an honorary doctor of law degree, he won the Vanier Award and was included in the CBC’s production 100 years in Aviation.


He also travelled to Haiti and Uganda to take pictures and promote international aid and HIV-AIDS health programs.
