Manitoba has yet another outbreak of Porcine Epidemic
Diarrhea virus, the fifth this year and the third within less than a month.
This case is at a combination nursery and finishing
operation. It’s in southeastern Manitoba where two recent outbreaks occurred in
sow barns.
The most recent case brings the Canadian total to 70.
Ontario has had 63 between January and July 21 and Quebec and Prince Edward Island
have had one each.
The United States has been hard hit with about 8,400
outbreaks in 31 states that have killed about eight million pigs.
It’s newborn and young pigs that are hardest hit; older
pigs usually survive, but almost all of the young ones die.
