The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says Monsanto has filed
an application for approval to market a genetically-modified corn that has big
ears.
The CFIA also
says the application is for approval to market the corn for livestock feed and
as a “novel food”.
The genetic
modification is known as MON 87403.
Health Canada is handling the part of the government review
that relates to sale of this corn as a novel food.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency, under Agriculture
Minister Gerry Ritz, is handling the environmental issues related to growing
this corn and its use as livestock feed.
