Mercy For Animals has released another underground video of
animal abuse, this time at a hog assembly yard in Alberta.
Workers at the Western Hog Exchange are shown kicking pigs
and hitting them with “clubs,” says the organization.
It unveiled its latest video in Ottawa because it is
lobbying the federal government to update transportation animal-welfare
regulations.
The organization also identifies pigs that were “limping”
and “crammed into corrals”.
Truckers will be damned if they say much of what is termed abuse is, in fact, normal practice, such as using a cane (not a club) to guide pigs or temporarily crowding them in a pen, crowding that denies them the space to fight.
But they will also be damned by the industry if they promise to stop everything Mercy for Animals condemns.
