Chicken farmers donate to food banks

Chicken Farmers of Ontario has donated $10,000 and skids of chicken to the CBC Sounds of the Season fund-raising efforts for the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto.

Through its CFO Cares Food Bank Donation program, Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) regularly helps fight hunger in local communities by enabling farmers to donate their fresh chicken to food banks across the province, the marketing board said.

To-date, the hunger-relief program has donated more than two million fresh chicken meals and is focused on building momentum and expanding its reach through donations and events such as CBC’s Sounds of the Season, the board said.

“Helping those in need and giving back to our communities is very important to farmers,” said board chairman Ed Benjamins on the CBC broadcast.

“We want to be sure that every Ontarian has access to the safe, healthy, high-quality chicken that they deserve. That’s why we are excited to once again be a part of CBC’s Sounds of the Season program, which is an excellent way to continue to put food on the plates of those who need it most.”
