China bans pig farming where there are wild boars

China has announced a ban on pig farming in areas where there are wild boars.

The ban follows the discovery of a new strain of the African swine fever (ASF) virus a wild boar in China last month.

Two new cases of ASF were announced Monday in Shenmu city of Shaanxi province and in Guiyang city of Guizhou province.

China has now reported more than 80 outbreaks of ASF since August, prompting the culling of nearly one million pigs, establishment of quarantine zones and restrictions on the movement of pigs and pork.
