Ontario Beef gets funding to study antimicrobial use

The federal and provincial agriculture departments are granting the Beef Farmers of Ontario organization up to $294,314 to document antimicrobial use.
The data from feedlots will document changing trends in use and resistance and is part of a national surveillance system.

“Collecting antimicrobial use and antimicrobial resistance data from feedlots located in Ontario and other major fed cattle producing provinces, will fill a current gap in our national surveillance program,” said Joe Hill, president of Beef Farmers of Ontario.
