BSE suspected in Brazil

An anonymous source has told Reuters News Agency that there is a suspected case of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE, or mad cow’s disease) in southeastern Brazil.

Brazil’s ministry of agriculture said such investigations are commonplace, and pledged to announce its findings as soon as the ongoing probe is concluded.

This is the first potential case since May, 2019, when Brazil’s government reported an “atypical” BSE case in an animal in Mato Grosso state.
