Great Lakes hog plant fined
Great Lakes Specialty Meats Ltd. of Mitchell has been fined $150,000 plus 37,500 victim surcharge for polluting the Thames River in February, 2012.
The company’s sewage pump failed that day.
The plant was owned by David Schwartz who also owned Quality Meat Packers of Toronto and both are bankrupt.
The charges were laid by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.
