The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has increased its
quarantines from two farms to eight in efforts to contain the outbreak.
So far it has been identified at the Animal Health
Laboratory in Guelph as a member of the H5 group and given the high mortality
rate, it’s likely to be a highly-pathogenic subtype, possibly N2 which has
broken out across the United States and in British Columbia.
The feather boards have activated their “command centre” to
deal with the situation, advising members to step up biosecurity measures.
