Mussel
will serve as the “research lead” and says “I’m very pleased to announce the
launch of our new website . . . at www.agrifoodecon.ca.
Established
in September 2014, Agri-Food
Economic Systems Inc. is an independent economic research organization
dedicated to agriculture and food.
“Providing top quality, independent and timely
economic research on agriculture and food to clients is what we do”, Mussell
said.
“As part of our commitment to independent and
thought provoking work, we will be releasing self-motivated research papers and
policy notes through our new website- stay tuned.”
The first of those papers was released today,
calling on the provincial government to reconsider its hasty intervention in
the controversy over the role of neonicitinoid pesticides in the collapse of
honey-bee colonies.
Mussel not only questions the regulations, but
also choosing the Ministry of Environment and Climate change to implement the regulations
rather than the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
Muusel notes that farmers will face additional
challenges to demonstrate that their fields qualify for use of neonicitinoids
and that there is so far no scientific basis to indicate this is a sensible
approach.
