Avian flu found in wild duck and goose in Kentuck

Avian influenza has been detected in a wild duck and a wild goose in Kentucky, says the United States Department of Agriculture”s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).

Kentucky becomes the 14th U.S. state to confirm the presence of the disease that is deadly for commercial poultry flocks.

This discovery is under the Mississippi flyway.

There were outbreaks along the West coast flyway around Christmas time last year, including 11 commercial flocks in British Columbia.

This year there have been scores of outbreaks under the Mississippi flyway, claiming millions of birds, especially in Minnesota and Iowa.

There have been three outbreaks in Oxford County, Ontario, claiming about 25,000 chickens and 50,000 turkeys.
