Canadian pulse exports will take a hit because its biggest customer, India, has imposed tariffs.
India earlier gave Canadian pulse exporters fits when it insisted that shipments needed to be fumigated with a pesticide Canada has banned.
Canada said cold winters destroy the pests that the fumigation is intended to kill.
India’s pulse imports could fall nearly 80 per cent to 1.2 million tonnes during the financial year of 2018-19 that started in April, the lowest since 2000-01, Bimal Kothari, vice-chairman of the Indian Pulses and Grains Association, told Reuters news agency.
