Chicken board encourages innovation

The Chicken Farmers of Ontario marketing board is renewing its offer of chicken supplies to companies with innovative products.

The chicken board operates a supply-allocation program to share chicken among processors and to discourage offers of premiums to attract supplies.

“If you’ve got a consumer facing, first-of-its-kind in Canada product made with chicken grown and fully processed in Ontario that has some track record (piloted or introduced in the last 18 months with at least six months of sales data), all you have to do to be considered is
apply,” said the chicken board.

The program is open to further processors, primary processors, food retailers, restaurants and foodservice operators.

‘And, there is an opportunity for multiple innovations to share in the millions of kilograms as applications are assessed on their own merits,” the board said.

It noted that Ontarions continue to increase their chicken consumption, bucking the trend to reduced meat consumption.
